School space

This page is for schools on the programme, and those interested in joining, to ask questions, share experiences and give advice.

Here are some schools' answers to frequently-asked questions:

Why did you apply to join the programme?
- 'We wanted to have a link French speaking school and work with them on a project which did not just involve MFL'

- 'We applied to develop links with French students studying vocational courses'

- 'I wanted to find opportunities to make languages real for my students and build relationships with schools abroad to develop our international school status'

- 'We were looking for a French partner school to increase interest and uptake in French at key stage 4.'
Are you in regular contact with your partner school?
- 'We email at least once a week to discuss the project.'

- 'Yes - we have emailed several times since meeting in Paris and have sent students' work'

- 'Yes, by email and telephone. We have just applied for a bi-lateral Comenius grant, which was really hard work to complete together but hopefully it will be worth it!'

- 'Yes, we have already sent out some letters and have set up email addresses for swapping regular info such as sports results, which songs are popular in the charts and what's new at school.'
What activities are already taking place?
- 'A collaborative website - so far, a year 10 class have made quizzes on school in England to go on to the site.'

- 'Our partner school wanted to swap information about cooking and recipes so we filmed our recent school Masterchef competition for them to watch.'

- 'We are planning an activity on stereotypical images of nationality, including a questionnaire in both French and English. We may video the results, like a TV news interview.'

- 'We are keen to pursue the F1 Challenge, entering an Anglo-French team, as we are a technology and engineering college.'

- 'We have started exchanging and translating mathematical problems to be shared with students and are planning a teacher visit for later in the year.'

- 'We are working on virtual visit of the two schools and organising an exchange for next year.'
How well have you felt supported in the programme?
- 'Very well supported, every time I ask a question, I receive an answer very quickly.

- 'Yes, you get a clear impression that there are people on hand to advise you if you need some support.'

- 'Very well. The conference in Paris was informative, and delegates were made to feel they could get in contact at any time with questions or concerns.'
